"We are not even considering going to the European Championship to be held in Yerevan."
This was stated by Irada Ashumova, the head coach of our national shooting team.
The European Championship in 10-meter shooting will be held in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, from February 27 to March 5. Currently, there is a warming in interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. So, will the Azerbaijani national team participate in the first prestigious competition of the International Shooting Sport Federation in 2026?
67-year-old Irada Ashumova, an Olympic medalist and three-time world medalist, said that they will not participate in that competition.
"During the III CIS Games, the Armenian athletes were given a state guarantee of security by us. They did not come and compete here. Therefore, we also decided not to participate in that European Championship. We did not even apply to any government agency for this," she said in a statement to prosport.az.
It should be noted that the president of the Azerbaijan Shooting Federation is the Minister of Internal Affairs, Colonel-General Vilayat Eyvazov. He was elected president of the federation for the second time on the 18th of last month.
