The International Judo Grand Prix has started in Guadalajara, Mexico.
According to Idman.Biz, four Azerbaijani athletes competed on the tatami on the first day of the competition, two of whom reached the final.
Balabay Agayev, competing in the 60 kg weight category, started with a victory over Frenchman Maxime Merlin, then defeated American Jonathan Yanga, and Belgian Jorre Verstraeten in the semi-finals. Agayev will face Brazilian Michel Augusto in the final.
In the 66 kg weight category, Ruslan Pashayev confidently defeated his opponents - Frenchman Romaric Vend-Vam Buda, Italian Elios Manzini, and Spaniard Adrian Nieto Chinnaron. In the final, he will face Finnish Lukas Saha.
Another Azerbaijani judoka, Ahmad Yusifov (60 kg), after losing to Belgian Jorre Verstraeten in the 1/4 finals, defeated American Jonathan Yanga in the consolation match. He will continue the fight for a bronze medal. His opponent here will be Frenchman Enzo Jean.
