A member of the Azerbaijani national taekwondo team won the first medal for our team at the World Championship.
According to Idman.Biz, Gashim Magomedov (58 kg), the leader of the Azerbaijani national team, who competed today at the World Championship held in China, defeated athletes from India, Uzbekistan, Serbia, and Turkey and advanced to the semi-finals. However, he lost to Russian representative Idar Bagov, who competed under a neutral flag, in the semi-finals. Thus, Gashim Magomedov won a bronze medal at the World Championship.
Let us remind you that our athletes were left without medals at the World Championship held in Baku last year. Nine taekwondo practitioners represent Azerbaijan at this championship, eight of whom have already completed their performances. Now we have one more chance for a medal – Javad Agayev, who will compete in the 74 kg weight category, will compete tomorrow.
