The World Championship held in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, is a great experience for Azerbaijani junior judokas.
This was stated by Emin Iskandarov, the head coach of the Azerbaijani national judo team, in his statement to the "Report" correspondent who was assigned to the tournament.
He shared his impressions of the competition:
"We had high hopes. We expected good results from the athletes. Judokas in the 50, 55 and 60 kg weight categories could have wrestled in the final. The opponents were not weak either. They were prepared and knew our athletes. They professionally analyzed our European champions. As a result, two of the children were able to take third place. Rasul Alizade in the 55 kg weight category lost in the first match. We also had high expectations from Muhammad Agakishiyev in the 73 kg weight category. The leaders competed with our judoka. The bad draw hindered us. Subhan Akhundov was ahead in the match with his Japanese opponent, but lost. That was also a technical mistake. He could not maintain his stamina".
E. Iskandarov said that they will work on the mistakes:
"We will work on all of these. We will try to prepare the young people well so that they do not make such mistakes next year. The current World Championship is a great experience for them. I hope they will take advantage of this experience correctly".
It should be noted that Azerbaijani judokas finished the individual competition with two bronze medals. Anar Guliyev (50 kg) and Zayd Alasgarov (60 kg) won bronze medals. The Azerbaijani national team took seventh place in the mixed team competition.
