The second place of the Azerbaijani national team of male judokas in the medal standings of the "Grand Slam", held in Paris, the capital of France, is a successful result.
The head coach of the team, Elkhan Mammadov, made a statement to "Report" about this.
The specialist shared his thoughts on the competition:
"The "Grand Slam" tournament in Paris is considered a small world championship. Because the leading judokas of the countries perform here. Many choose these competitions for the European and world championships. The Azerbaijani national team took the second place in the medal standings in the men's competition after Japan with 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal. This is a successful result."
E.Mammadov reminded that Olympic champions Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) and Zelim Kotsoev (100 kg) and the team's other leading member Eljan Hajiyev (90 kg) did not participate in this tournament:
"Despite this, our national team performed very well. We took second place in the "Grand Slam" in Paris. On this occasion, I congratulate the Azerbaijan Judo Federation and sports fans. It is indeed a great success. The fact that the national team is in this place shows that the team has a strong squad, and even without leaders, it is remembered for its successful performance in every competition. We will participate in the "Grand Slam" tournament to be held in Uzbekistan. We expect to perform successfully in this tournament as well. We are also preparing well for the world championship to be held in Baku. I hope that we will achieve good results here as well."
It should be noted that Balabay Agayev (60 kg) won a gold medal, Zelim Tchaev (81 kg) a silver medal, and Ruslan Pashayev (66 kg) a bronze medal at the "Grand Slam".
