Azerbaijani national judoka Eljan Hajiyev has been injured again.
Idman.Biz reports with reference to sportnet.az that the executive vice-president of the federation Rashad Rasullu informed about this.
According to him, E.Hajiyev, who competes in the 90 kg weight category, was injured during the training camp in Mittersill, Austria. The 24-year-old athlete will be out of competition for 4-8 weeks.
For this reason, E.Hajiyev will not be able to participate in the Paris Grand Slam, which will be held on February 7-8. At best, he can enter the tatami at the Tashkent Grand Slam, which will be held on February 27 - March 1.
Rashad Rasullu stated that this injury will negatively affect the athlete's preparation process in any case: "Eljan is one of our main athletes."
The federation official also noted that Murad Fatiyev, Omar Rajabli and Ahmad Yusifov did not participate in the Austrian training camp. Although they did not participate in the training camp due to injuries they received at the end of 2025, they have already recovered.
It should be noted that Eljan Hajiyev won a gold medal at the 2024 European Championship and the 2025 Sixth Islamic Solidarity Games. He won a bronze medal for the first time in his career at last year's world championship. E.Hajiyev was taken to the hospital after suffering a serious shoulder injury during a fight with Frenchman Ngayap Hambou in the 1/8 final match of the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games.
