The main goal of the Azerbaijan national youth judo team at the World Championship to be held in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, will be to take one of the top three places in the medal standings.
The head coach of the team, Emin Iskandarov, told "Report" about this.
The specialist said that they will try to repeat the results of the European Championship held in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia:
"Our hopes are high. The World Championship has its own atmosphere. Competition will be strong as representatives from Asia, North and South America will also participate in the competition. There may be some tension. But we will try to achieve results. We could have participated in the competition with 10 athletes. However, 8 of our judokas will participate. We will not be represented in 66 and 81 kg. We will not take our athletes on the trip because they could not justify themselves in the last tournaments."
E. Iskandarov spoke about the goals in the world championship:
"We want to take one of the top three places in the medal standings. That is our demand and desire. But we will see the results together. It is difficult to predict now. All our opponents are the number one judokas of their countries. There will be strong competition. Russian and Georgian athletes are also ambitious. We analyze the judokas our representatives will face. Some of them have met in continental competitions. We have worked on our mistakes. We have prepared well for the tournament."
It should be noted that the World Championship will be held between August 26-31.
