The European Junior Judo Championships started today in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia.
Idman.biz reports that 9 judokas in 6 weight categories took to the tatami on the first day of the competition.
Anar Guliyev, competing in the 50 kg weight category, took the highest step on the podium. He defeated German Julius Kitangava with an ippon in the final.
Gulshan Huseynova (44 kg) distinguished herself in the girls' competition. Our judoka won the bronze medal by defeating Fatma Zehra Meki (Turkey) in the match for third place.
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national team will be represented in the competition by 19 athletes (10 boys, 9 girls) in 14 weight categories in individual competitions.
Our team will compete in the mixed team competition on the last day of the tournament.
