Azerbaijan is considered one of the best judo countries because it raises Olympic and world champions.
This was stated by Serbian Aleksandar Kukoly, European champion, silver medalist of the world championship, in his statement to "Report".
The expert, who conducts seminars for young athletes within the framework of the "European Judo Hopes" international tournament held in Azerbaijan, highly appreciated the development of judo in the country:
"Azerbaijan is already considered one of the best judo countries because it raises Olympic and world champions. As far as I know, Elnur Mammadli won the first gold medal from Azerbaijan at the Summer Olympic Games held in Beijing in 2008. Last year, they won two gold medals at the Olympic Games in Paris. This in itself speaks volumes."
He emphasized that he won his first silver medal in the "Grand Slam" competitions in Azerbaijan.
"I won my first "Grand Slam" medal 10 years ago in Azerbaijan. It was a silver medal. I have many friends in Azerbaijan. A month ago, I gave a master class in Belgrade. Azerbaijani judokas Hidayat Heydarov and Zelim Kotsoyev also participated as coaches in that seminar."
It should be noted that the international tournament organized by the European Judo Union at the Absheron Olympic Sports Complex will end on July 27.
