Members of the national team of the Azerbaijan Karate Federation have returned home after completing their participation in the European Karate Championship held in Frankfurt, Germany.
Idman.Biz reports that the athletes were met at Heydar Aliyev International Airport by federation officials, coaches, family members, and representatives of the sports community.
At the welcoming ceremony, the members of the national team were thanked for their fight and for representing Azerbaijan in the international arena.
It should be noted that 586 karate fighters from 50 countries competed in the 61st WKF European Championship held in Frankfurt, Germany.
Azerbaijani karate fighters were remembered with successful results in the competition. Our female karate fighter Madina Sadigova won a gold medal in the 55 kg weight category, becoming the first Azerbaijani female European champion among adults through the WKF organization.
Irina Zaretska won a bronze medal in the 68 kg weight category. Vidadi Khaligov, Farrukh Gaybaliyev, and Aysel Ahmadli, who competed in para-karate, also finished the European Championship with a bronze medal.
Our women's kumite team also won a bronze medal in team competitions. Madina Sadigova, Irina Zaretska, Gulay Orujova, and Aysu Aliyeva were in the team.
Azerbaijani karate fighters ranked sixth in Europe in the overall team standings.
