The first goal of the "Neftchi" basketball club, which will represent Azerbaijan in the European Cup, will be to advance to the next stage.
The team's coach, Daviti Chivchivadze, told "Report" about this.
The Georgian specialist emphasized that the opponents in the group they will compete in are strong:
"This is a historic moment for the club. Our team will participate in the European Cup for the first time. I am proud that I have also contributed to this event. As for the opponents, "Bursaspor" is one of the strongest teams in Europe in home games and regularly participates in the playoffs. "Trefl" won the Polish championship last season and the national cup this year. "Kalev/Kramo" is the current Estonian champion. The group is very difficult and we will form a team that can compete with these opponents. We will do our best to achieve the desired result. The first goal is to advance to the next stage. Since this is our first participation, every victory is important".
The coach said that changes have been made in the staff:
"We have made major changes in the staff and coaching staff. Vitali Stepanovski is a great coach and person. I met him at a congress in Greece this summer and had very interesting conversations. His experience, desire, I am sure, will help us achieve our goals. I wish the head coach and "Neftchi" success in the upcoming competitions. I want to tell all "Neftchi" fans, Azerbaijani sports fans, especially basketball fans, to come and support them. Playing in a full arena always creates confidence".
It should be noted that "Neftchi" will compete with "Kalev/Kramo" (Estonia), "Bursaspor" (Turkey) and "Trefl" (Poland) clubs in Group I of the European Cup.
