"Neftchi" head coach Vitali Stepanovski commented on his team's game against "Sabah" in the opening round of the Azerbaijan Basketball League.
Idman.biz reports that the match ended with "Sabah" winning 86:75.
"We started the game confidently. Our basketball players played with energy and fulfilled their tasks. Everything went according to plan in the first 15 minutes: we took the lead thanks to strong defense and control of the backcourt. But at the end of the second half, we made a number of mistakes and lost discipline, which the opposing team's leader Hassani Gravett took advantage of. After the break, the situation worsened due to fouls. This forced us to rebuild our squad," the coach noted.
Stepanovski emphasized that in the third quarter, Neftchi's offensive organization weakened, the team made many mistakes and allowed the opponent to score easily: "In the last quarter, we tried to change the game and sometimes we succeeded. I am satisfied with the players' dedication, but their long-range shots were disappointing. The team has good potential, we need to improve our defense and offense. We will continue to work on this."
