JJ Kalakon, a player of the Sumgayit basketball club, gave an interview to the club's press service. He shared his thoughts on his arrival in Azerbaijan, his career, and the level of the local championship.
Idman.Biz reports that C.Kalakon said he started his professional career in Finland.
According to him, although the first season was difficult, after changing teams, he became one of the main players. The contract with the Azerbaijani club took place during the season, in December. Although the basketball player initially got little playing time, he believed he would get a chance and now emphasizes that the head coach trusts him. He especially noted that he made a good impression in the cup match with NTD.
C.Kalakon also spoke about his impressions of Azerbaijan. He highly appreciated the architecture of Baku, and said that Sumgayit, in terms of mentality and lifestyle, is similar to his native South Sudan and Egypt. He said that this similarity helps him feel comfortable here.
The basketball player also assessed the level of the Azerbaijan Basketball League. According to him, the local championship is not inferior to the college league he played in in the USA, and this is a very positive thing for him. C.Kalakon added that every player in the Sumgayit team has the potential to decide the fate of the game.
It should be noted that JJ Kalakon also emphasized that the level of the Azerbaijan Basketball League is higher than the Finnish championship. In his opinion, in our country, teams build their game more on forwards and centers, while in Finland, playmakers and defenders are in the foreground.
