The group stage game of the American Basketball Championship ended in a fight.
Idman.biz reports that the players started fighting after the referee's final whistle in the match between Argentina and the Dominican Republic.
One of the main participants in the fight was San Antonio forward David Jones-Garcia. He punched his opponents in the face several times.
Although the Dominican Republic was behind in the score for 35 minutes, they took the game to overtime and eventually won 84:83.
FIBA has announced a disciplinary decision regarding the incident.
David Jones-Garcia has been suspended for two games. His teammates Juan Guerrero, Juan Suero and Angel Delgado have been penalized with one game each. Delgado may miss another game as he will be on probation for three years.
On the Argentine side, Gonzalo Bressan was penalized with 2 games, and Francisco Caffaro and Juan Volet with 1 game each. The team's head coach must pay a fine of 2,000 francs.
In addition, the basketball federations of the two countries were fined 20,000 Swiss francs each. 10,000 francs of this fine is a suspended sentence and is applied with a three-year probationary period.
