Yaşar Mammadov, a living legend and one of the symbols of Azerbaijani and world fencing, who has exceptional services in the development of fencing in our country and has conquered the Olympic peaks many times, the master of fencers, has celebrated his 90th birthday.
Idman.biz reports that representatives of the National Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Azerbaijan Fencing Federation, and family members of Yaşar Mammadov attended the anniversary ceremony.
The Mammadov family, who opened the event with an introductory speech, greeted the guests and thanked the participants of the ceremony for celebrating the jubilee's birthday with them.
Then a video about Yaşar muallim's 90-year life was shown.
Speaking at the event, Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzade, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, President of the Azerbaijan Fencing Federation Balakishi Gasimov shared their memories about Yaşar Mammadov, who was awarded the "Shohrat" order, a Presidential pensioner, and was included in the Hall of Fame of the International Fencing Federation in 2014, congratulated him on his birthday and presented commemorative gifts.
The temporary president of the International Fencing Federation Abdel Monem El-Husseini, former and current presidents of the fencing federations of Turkey, Georgia, Bulgaria, Belarus, and birthday greetings from Olympic champions were shown at the ceremony.
The event, attended by well-known figures of the Azerbaijani sports community, continued with an artistic part.
