The Azerbaijani national freestyle wrestling team returned from the World Championship without a gold medal. The team won 4 medals (0-1-3), took 4th place in the team standings and scored 83 points. Iran (145), USA (134) and Japan (111) were included in the top three of the tournament.
Honored coach, head coach of the U-17 freestyle wrestling team Vahid Mammadov commented on the results of the tournament to Idman.biz.
The experienced coach said that, of course, the lack of a champion is bad: "Yes, we won three bronze and one silver medal, but even four silver medals cannot replace the gold of the championship!"
He added that it is frustrating that we have not had a champion for eight years. Vahid Mammadov also assessed the performance of Khetag Gazumov as head coach: "Khetag was an excellent athlete, one of the best in Azerbaijan during his performance. I would very much like him to be a good coach. I think he will still prove himself."
