"I believed I would become a world champion."
Idman.biz reports that these words were said by Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Ulvi Ganizade (72 kg) while sharing his impressions of winning a gold medal at the World Championships held in Zagreb.
"I hope that I can become a world champion for the third time as well. The main match of the tournament is the final. I have faced this opponent in the decisive match of the 2023 European Championship, as well as in the final of last year's World Championship. He is the most difficult opponent for me. I have defeated him three times and I hope that I will defeat him again," the press service of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation quotes Ganizade.
He also noted that he was dissatisfied with the refereeing:
"It was a somewhat unfair decision. During the par terre, I threw the Frenchman off the mat and could have scored one or two points, but they didn't give them. Thank God, I scored points again and was able to maintain my advantage."
Ganizade finally said who he dedicated his victory to.
"I dedicate this victory to our victorious army and to the soul of my father," added the two-time world champion.
