The U23 World Championship continues in Novi Sad, Serbia. Today, members of our national teams in both women's and freestyle wrestling took to the mat.
"Report" informs that Elnura Mammadova (53 kg) won convincingly (9:0) over Turkish Sıla Aykul, but lost to Spaniard Karla Soler 11:14 in the 1/4 finals.
Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg) did not give Bulgarian Viktoria Boynova a chance in her debut - 8:1. Our compatriot defeated Moldovan Madalina Prisacari (11:0) and Kazakh Viktoria Khusainova (fall) ahead of time in the next stages. In the semi-final against Japanese Ruka Natami, Gunay lost the victory in the last seconds - 1:3. Gurbanova will wrestle for a bronze medal tomorrow.
Birgul Soltanova (62 kg) lost to Russian Ekaterina Koshkina by "fall" in the qualifying stage.
Magomed-Bashir Khaniyev (74 kg) won the first stage against Greek Georgios Ioakeimidis with a full advantage (10:0). Our representative was stronger than Armenian Grigor Cholakyan in the 1/8 finals - 14:5. Khaniyev also defeated Bahrain representative Magomedrasul Asluyev with a score of 7:3 and advanced to the semi-finals. Khaniyev lost to Turkish Muhammed Ozmus 3:7 one step away from the final. Magomed-Bashir will wrestle for a bronze medal tomorrow.
Sadiq Mustafazade (92 kg) eliminated Spaniard Mukhammedsultan Kopbayev from the competition with a full advantage (10:0), but failed to cope with Iranian Mohammadmobin Azimi in the 1/8 finals - 0:8. Our compatriot will compete in a consolation match tomorrow.
