Azerbaijani wrestler Rihad Ibrahimli has reached the final of the U-17 European Championship held in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia.
The Wrestling Federation's press service told "Report" about this.
Greco-Roman wrestlers in the 48, 55, 65, 80 and 110 kg categories competed on the first day of the competition.
Gurban Majnunov (48 kg) won a confident victory over Hungarian Gergo Zatko (11:2) in his debut. Then, the 15-year-old wrestler, who defeated Turkish Barış Soylu with a score of 6:1, advanced to the semi-finals. Majnunov, who lost to Armenian Martin Manjikyan in a tense fight for the quality of points (6:6) one step away from the final, will wrestle against Nikolaos Zinis from Greece in the bronze medal match tomorrow.
Although Aykhan Asadli (55 kg) defeated Belarusian Aleksandr Beliakov with a score of 6:3, he lost to Russian Danil Lojkin by "touch" in the 1/4 final.
Ramil Musayev (65 kg) pinned the back of Italian Alessio Arancio to the mat and celebrated the victory ahead of time, but lost to Belarusian Vladislav Salavyov in the 1/8 final – 3:5.
Nijat Yeylagaliyev (80 kg) continued his confident victory over Czech Jachim Jaburek (8:0) in the match with Greek Stefanos Vasdekis – 6:1. Nijat, who did not give Giorgi Ormotsadze (9:0) from Georgia any chance, lost to Lithuanian Benediktas Bubelevicius in the semi-final based on the last point principle (1:1). Yeylagaliyev will face either Danilo Aksentijevic (Serbia), Olivers Irklis (Latvia), or Jens Abrahamsson (Sweden) in the match for third place tomorrow.
Rihad Ibrahimli (110 kg) first defeated Belarusian Matvey Silis (5:1), and then Polish Mateusz Tomelka (11:2). Ibrahimli, who was stronger than Ukrainian Anatoli Novachenko (4:1) in the semi-final, made it to the final. Rihad will fight against Bulgarian Denis Lazarov in the decisive match tomorrow.
