"Our team is entirely composed of local wrestlers."
These words were said by Togrul Asgarov, acting head coach of the women's wrestling national team.
The expert spoke about the team's preparation for the U-23 European Wrestling Championship, which will be held in Zrenjanin, Serbia.
"As you know, our main team consists of young people. The first test competition of the year was the rating competition held in Zagreb. Then, we held a joint training camp in Hungary with the participation of wrestlers from several countries. The last gathering, which was preparatory in nature for the U23 European Championship, took place in Baku," he said in a statement to offsideplus.az.
T. Asgarov emphasized that young wrestlers dominate the team:
"We have quite a few promising girls in the team. But to achieve great success, we need to be a little patient. They need to mature further and increase their experience. Every competition is an experience for them. I believe that if we continue on this upward trend, we will be able to please the fans with significant successes with these athletes in the future. Our long-term goal is for our girls to win licenses for the Olympic Games with the support of both the federation and the state."
It should be noted that in the women's wrestling competition, under the leadership of acting head coach Togrul Asgarov and coach Agahuseyn Mustafayev, Asmar Cankurtaran (50 kg), Nargiz Samadova (53 kg), Gultakin Shirinova (55 kg), Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg), Ruzanna Mammadova (62 kg) and Zahra Karimzade (72 kg) will test their strength. The continental championship will be held from March 9 to 15.
