Acting head coach of women's wrestling Togrul Asgarov assessed the national team's preparation for the Islamic Solidarity Games at the VI Islamic Games. Sport24.az reports that he made a statement to the press service of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation about this:
"We are completing preparations for the Islamic Games. First we did physical, then tactical and technical training. The training camp took place in Goygol. Our goal is to win at least 1 set of medals. I wish all our wrestlers to win medals."
The Olympic champion also emphasized that sports are full of surprises: "Anything can happen. An athlete who is not considered a favorite can become a champion, or an ambitious wrestler can be left without a medal. The teams of Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are the main rivals. Nigeria also has strong wrestlers in several weight categories. As a coaching staff, we have done our best to ensure that the national team members reach their maximum level of preparation."
It should be noted that the wrestling competitions at the Islamic Games will be held from November 18 to 21. Bashir Isazade, a first-class judge, will also be one of those representing Azerbaijan at the Islamic Solidarity Games.
