Ruzanna Mammadova (62 kg), who won a silver medal at the European Championship held in Zrenjanin, Serbia, intended to stay on the podium despite undergoing surgery.
"Report" reports that the athlete said this in a statement to journalists after the final match.
She stated that she participated in only one training camp:
"The competition was very difficult. I had been preparing for two months. I had knee surgery. It was my first competition after the injury. I had only participated in one training camp. I did light exercises and joined the competition. Despite having surgery, my goal was to win a medal in this competition, not to fall off the podium. True, my dream of becoming a champion did not come true. The factor that held me back a bit in this competition was knee surgery. I hope I will perform better in the next competitions."
The wrestler also spoke about her next goals:
"I aim to participate in the European Championship among adults. I will probably prepare better and participate in the training camp before the competition to be held in Albania. Of course, the competition among adults will be more difficult. I compete in the 62 kg weight category. This is the Olympic weight. I hope I will prepare better for this competition."
It should be noted that R. Mammadova lost to Russian Amina Tandelova in the final and won a silver medal.
