Azerbaijani wrestlers, who became the first with a record score at the U-15 European Championship held in Caorle, Italy, have returned to their homeland.
"Report" informs that the national freestyle wrestling team, which won 2 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze medal at the U15 European Championship and took 1st place in the team standings, was greeted at Heydar Aliyev Airport.
Media representatives, fans, relatives of athletes, and members of the public attended the ceremony.
It should be reminded that Javanshir Suleymanov (38 kg) lost to Russian Abdulla Almazov (0:10) in the final and settled for a silver medal. Huseyn Rzazade (41 kg) became the European champion by winning the final against Russian Nikita Kondrashov with a minimal difference (7:6) in a tense match.
Ibrahim Hasanov (44 kg), who climbed to the highest step of the podium last year in 41 kg, was close to repeating the same success in the higher weight. However, this time the graduate of the Ganja wrestling school could not cope with Russian Kirill Kondrashov in the decisive match (0:8) and settled for a silver medal.
Akbar Asgarov (48 kg) lost to Russian Amir Daurov with a score of 4:5 in the final and took second place in the responsible competition. Our other representative in this weight, Tunar Sultanzade, lost to Georgian Demetre Mortuladze with the same score in the bronze medal match.
Thus, our national team, which won 2 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medal at the European Championship, became the European champion for the second time in the team score with 161 points. Our team surpassed Armenia, which took 2nd place, by 47 points. The first "three" was closed by Ukraine (91).
It should be noted that 161 points is a new record in freestyle wrestling in this age group. The best result before that was recorded in 2023. Two years ago, our team took 2nd place with 145 points.
