Rafiq Huseynov, coordinator for Greco-Roman wrestling of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation (AGF), participated in the conference of the United World Wrestling (UWW).
This was reported to "Report" by the press service of the AGF.
Federation representatives from 4 countries, including Azerbaijan, spoke at the event. They presented the development path and strategies of wrestling in their countries to the participants.
At the beginning of his speech, R. Huseynov spoke about the successes we have achieved in wrestling during the years of independence. He noted that during this period, 1434 medals were won at the Olympic Games, world and European championships. 28 of them were won at the Olympics, 478 at the World Championships, and 928 at the European Championships. Touching upon the vastness of our country's wrestling area in the presentation, R. Huseynov especially noted that many titled wrestlers grew up in the regions.
The federation official stated that wrestling is one of the favorite sports in our country due to its rich traditions. This tradition is successfully passed down from generation to generation. Of course, state support plays a big role in the achievements. There is modern infrastructure, stable financing and strong sports institutions. The support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education for the development of wrestling is also invaluable.
The AGF's strategy prioritizes increasing the professionalism of coaches, identifying talents, participating in high-level training camps, achieving continuous success in international competitions, and ensuring that the future activities of titled athletes are connected with wrestling in one way or another as a legacy role.
R. Huseynov, stating that many prestigious sports events have been held in our country before, noted that AGF is ready to cooperate with UWW and all international partners.
