Oyan Nazariani, the head coach of the Azerbaijan national beach wrestling team, hopes that the number of participants in the national championship will be high, and they will be able to select the best and prepare them for the Olympics. Sport24.az reports that the specialist stated this in an interview with "Report".
He emphasized that wrestlers from different cities and regions of the country will be involved in order to prepare the team: "This is not the first championship among wrestlers of this age. Previously, championships were held among wrestlers aged 17 and 20, as well as among adults. The reason why we are organizing the competition earlier this year is that the Youth Summer Olympic Games will be held next year, which includes beach wrestling. In order to prepare the team, we will attract wrestlers from different cities and regions of the country and hold this championship. We hope that the number of participants will be high enough and we will be able to select the best and prepare them for the Olympics."
He did not rule out the possibility of changes in the youth squad before the upcoming world championship: "The World Beach Wrestling Championship for under-17s will be held in September. Earlier, at the European Championship for this age group, we won two gold and one bronze medals in four weight categories. We were first in terms of the quality of gold medals. However, we finished fourth in the team competition due to a failure in one weight category. We may use new children in the World Championship. However, there will most likely be no changes in the adult squad. Because the World Championship among adults consists of several stages, and the wrestlers have already participated in two of them. Depending on the situation of the youth, changes may be made to the squad before the World Championship."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijan Championship will be held on July 16-17.
