The national freestyle wrestling team, which won 3 medals at the U20 World Championship held in Samokov, Bulgaria, has returned to the Motherland. Sport24.az reports that the team was welcomed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
Our successful wrestlers gave an interview to the official website of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
Vasif Bagirov, third in the world:
"The competition went very well. I went to be a champion. I got a bronze medal. I lost in the semi-finals because I couldn't build the right wrestling tactics against my Indian opponent. I hope to participate successfully in the upcoming competitions. I will represent my country properly. The national championship for adults is coming up. I will do my best and try to be a champion."
Yusif Dursunov, third in the world:
"I went to Bulgaria for the championship. Unfortunately, I lost to my Iranian opponent in the semi-finals due to the last point principle. He had analyzed my meetings well. He knew my wrestling style. The 3rd place in the World Championship is also a good result. I will work on my mistakes and I believe that I will show higher results in the future."
Nurlan Agazade, third in the world:
"Although I participated in such a prestigious competition for the first time in my career, my goal was a gold medal. In the semi-finals, I lost to the Moldovan athlete purely because of my inexperience. A certain amount of excitement also had its say. I also lacked some endurance. But I did not give up. I won a bronze medal by defeating the Georgian wrestler. I dedicate this result to my father, who has worked the hardest on me. I express my gratitude to my personal trainer Ashraf Aliyev, our senior coach Arif Abdullayev, as well as Rovshan Hajiyev and Nazim Alicanov, Niyazi and Vusal muallim."
