Azerbaijani wrestler Nihat Mammadli's (60 kg) goal is to become a three-time European champion.
"Report" reports that the athlete said this in a statement to the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
The member of the Greco-Roman wrestling team shared his impressions of the rating tournament he participated in in Tirana:
"We prepared very well for the competition. The weight loss process went smoothly. Since I hadn't participated in competitions for a long time, I didn't have any problems with weight loss. That's why I felt very good during the competition. There were strong opponents. But it seems I was more prepared. I won all my opponents and became the champion. Nihad and I have been training together for many years. I knew that the meeting would be head-to-head. Because we know each other very well. It's difficult to do something different in such a situation."
He spoke about his upcoming goals:
"The European Championship is coming up. The goal is clear: to become a champion. The title in this competition was a great stimulus before the continental championship. I believe in my strength. God willing, I will become a 3-time European champion. I will do my best to protect the title. Last year I broke a rib and had problems with my eyes. Thankfully, I am fully prepared now. I have no injuries or pain. After the European Championship, my goal will be to succeed in the World Championship, where I have not been able to win a medal in the 60 kg category so far."
It should be noted that at the rating tournament held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, Nihat Mammadli defeated all his opponents and climbed to the highest step of the podium.
