"One of the main characteristics of a good coach is to be deeply aware of the psychological and physical condition of his trainee."
These words were said by the Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, Olympic champion Namig Abdullayev, while answering Idman.Biz's question "Which athlete makes a good coach?"
Namig Abdullayev, who participated in the First Coaches Forum, announced the main criteria in personnel selection:
"The ideal option is for that person to have been the captain of the team during their sports career. In this role, the athlete communicates more closely with the coaches than others, is involved in organizational processes, and learns to be a leader. In addition, the captain is an example not only on the carpet or stadium, but also beyond its borders. Therefore, I believe that excellent specialists grow out of former captains.
In addition, there are innate coaches who work effectively with a specific trainee on an individual basis. Such people often cannot find themselves in the coaching staff of the national team: either they do not want to work there themselves, or they are ‘not seen’ because they do not have the desire or ability to work with other colleagues in a large team."
