Some Azerbaijani freestyle wrestlers failed to win medals at the World Championship for various reasons.
This was stated by the head coach of the national team, Khetaq Gazyumov, in an interview with "Report".
He shared his thoughts on the world championship held in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia:
"Some athletes could have pleased us with medals. But for various reasons, they could not win. There were also those who competed in the World Championship for the first time. This is very gratifying."
The expert said that 22-year-old Nureddin Novruzov fought very well:
"I hope that his bronze medal will be a starting point for other young people. I am sure that these young people will be envious in a good way and will want to win a medal. We hope that we will train a world champion in the future. We are working to make this happen."
It should be noted that Azerbaijani freestyle wrestlers won four medals at the World Championship. Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg) won silver, while Nureddin Novruzov (61 kg), Arseniy Djioyev (86 kg) and Osman Nurmagomedov (92 kg) won bronze medals.
