"This year was tough for our wrestlers,"
Idman.Biz reports that this was stated by the head coach of the Azerbaijani freestyle wrestling team, Khetag Gazyumov, who won medals of various denominations at the VI Islamic Solidarity Games held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, in an interview with journalists.
He stated that they considered the results achieved to be successful:
"Winning a gold medal at the Islamic Games pleases the Azerbaijani wrestling community. We were expecting a gold medal from Islam Bazarqanov, but unfortunately, it didn't happen. However, in general, some of our athletes won gold medals. This is gratifying. Arseniy Djioyev's match with his Iranian opponent was difficult. But he proved that he is the leader of his weight. I express my gratitude to the National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the conditions they have created for us."
It should be noted that on the last day of the Islamic Games, freestyle wrestlers Arseniy Djioyev (86 kg) won gold, Aganazar Novruzov (74 kg) won silver, and Magomedkhan Magomedov (97 kg) and Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg) won bronze medals.
