Abilfat Mammadov, the senior coach of the Azerbaijani U-15 Greco-Roman wrestling team, spoke about the national championship, the results of the Gymnasiade held in Serbia last month, and upcoming plans.
"Report" reports that the expert considered the results of the Gymnasiade satisfactory in his statement to the press service of the Wrestling Federation.
He stated that the Azerbaijani championship went as they expected:
"The Azerbaijani championship went as we expected. Wrestlers who regularly participate in the training process of the national team advanced to the finals in 9 out of 10 weight categories. Athletes who won medals have been involved in the team."
He also evaluated the results of the Gymnasiade held in Serbia:
"We performed normally in Serbia. I consider the result satisfactory. We had 3 gold and 2 silver medals. Most importantly, 9 out of 10 children placed."
He also spoke about the preparations for the European Championship to be held in Italy:
"We will switch to intensive training a month before the competition. We will start the general physical training process on May 26. We will give preference to tactical and technical exercises 10 days before the continental championship. All of this will take place in Baku. Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Armenia and Hungary are considered favorite teams along with us. I cannot say who I expect medals from and how many medals we will win, because it will be the first major competition for most of the children. Let's say they are taking the first step. U-15 is the most difficult age group. Therefore, it is impossible to give an accurate forecast. With God's help, I believe we will perform well."
