It is a very good result that Azerbaijani beach wrestlers won 2 gold and 1 bronze medals at the European Championship among juniors (U-17) held in Porec, Croatia.
The head coach of the national team, Oyan Nazariani, told "Report" about this.
He reminded that they competed in four weight categories in the boys' competition and were among the winners in three weights:
"Although we are ahead of all countries in terms of medal quality, we took third place in the team competition. This is a very good indicator. Two of the four gold awards were won by Azerbaijani representatives. This was a very important competition. Because we are preparing for the Youth Olympic Games, which will be held in 2026. Beach wrestling is also included in the program. It is a responsible tournament. Therefore, we will test the juniors in tournaments until then. We want to achieve maximum results."
The expert said that the European Championship coincided with an important day:
"Yesterday's achievements were won on May 28 - Independence Day of Azerbaijan. When I spoke to the young athletes, I reminded them that they were competing in the European Championship on a special day. The best gift we can give to our compatriots is the medals won. The children also lived up to expectations. They waved our country's flag with two gold medals. It was a proud moment. I once again congratulate our people on the occasion of Independence Day. May our independence be eternal. We intend to represent our country properly in the upcoming competitions. The Summer Olympic Games to be held in 2026 are also very important. Countries around the world are investing in beach wrestling, and they participate in tournaments with large teams. We thank the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation and all our loved ones who support us."
It should be noted that Ruslan Valiyev (70 kg) and Nihad Suleymanli (80 kg) won gold, and Rashid Nazarov (60 kg) won a bronze medal at the European Championship.
