Hasrat Mammadlyarov, the head coach of the U-17 women's wrestling national team, gave an interview to the press service of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
Idman.biz reports that the experienced specialist evaluated the Azerbaijan championships and talked about future competitions.
- What are your impressions of the U-15 and U-17 country championships in women's wrestling, which were held in Astara for the first time?
- Of course, this competition can be of great benefit to our athletes in the future. Previously, we found 1-2 girls here and there. But now there are many girls engaged in wrestling. The constant increase in this number and the development of children depend on us coaches.
- After the national championship, you participated in the "Victory Cup" tournament held annually in Turkey. But there were no medals...
- Regarding the competition held in Turkey, I can say that I took the winners of the national championship there. There was no competition in 40 kg in Astara. I took Gunel Guliyeva, our only athlete in this weight, and checked her out. The wrestlers we had the most hope for were Nazrin Ahmadli, Esra Mammadli and Fatima Bayramova. All three of them were injured. I tested them in the competition to see how they would wrestle in the European Championship after the training camp. I can evaluate it normally. Some wrestled one weight class higher, not in their own category. There were also girls who participated in an international competition for the first time. Participation in this tournament was very important for them to gain experience. Let's admit that we are weaker in some weights compared to our opponents. In my opinion, as the number of female wrestlers increases in the country, so will the quality.
- How is the preparation going for the U-17 and U-15 European Championships to be held in June?
- I thank the Federation management for creating all conditions for high-level preparation. We are currently in a training camp at the Absheron Olympic Sports Complex. We have great trainings. We have 3 trainings a day. Maria Stadnik, the coordinator for women's wrestling, is also with us. She is almost one of our coaches. She helps with everything, gives advice, we work together. Our mood is also great. If there are more such gatherings, I am sure that there will be great progress in women's wrestling in the future.
- What result do you hope for in the European Championship?
- Now our team consisting of adults and youth is undergoing a preparation process in Guba. As a coaching staff, we will come together and determine the final squad for the European Championship. We want to return home with medals. The transition of some of our strong wrestlers to the U20 age group has slightly weakened our squad. 2-3 people remained from last year's squad. New faces have joined them. I believe that in the future we can achieve even stronger achievements than before.
