"I was very happy when I heard that my Olympic medal would be replaced."
These words were said by Greco-Roman wrestler Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg) while talking about the return of his bronze medal won at the "Paris-2024" Summer Olympic Games, which later suffered abrasion.
The athlete recalled that the Olympic medal was in poor condition, its color was completely faded, and its surface was corroded.
"This happened while I was in Paris. After returning to my homeland, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) began to deal with this issue seriously. A few months later, I was informed that my medal would be replaced with a new one. This is very good news. Because it is disappointing to win an award from a competition that is the pinnacle of sports, and then face such a situation. About 10 days ago, I handed over my medal to the NOC. They sent those medals to France and said that they would be replaced with new ones very soon," he said in a statement to AZERTAC.
He emphasized that he hoped that there would be no problems with his new medal:
"I believe that it will be of better quality than the previous one. The NOC is constantly monitoring this issue. I hope everything will be fine."
It should be noted that the work on the return of the medals started last week. In the first stage, in addition to H. Jafarov, the medal of taekwondo athlete, Paris Olympics silver medalist Qashim Magomedov will also be replaced. The preparation time for the new medals will take approximately 3-5 weeks.
