Our national women's saber fencing team participated in the World Cup held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.
Chingiz Mustafayev, the head coach of the national team, evaluated the performance of his athletes in an interview with Idman.Biz regarding the Azerbaijani sabre fencers returning from the World Cup stage in Tashkent.
"I am undoubtedly satisfied with the results achieved. Firstly, I am very happy for Polina Kasperovich, who finally won a bronze medal. She had been one step away from the podium for a long time, always falling short by a very small margin. This is her first success in such prestigious competitions, and I am sure it will not be the last.
Secondly, this success confirms the increase in intra-team competition. Sabina Karimova and the very young Zarifa Huseynova are already approaching the level of our leader Anna Bashta.
Thirdly, this start was of fundamental importance for Anna. Due to two consecutive injuries, she had not performed for almost two years. Now it was important for her to regain self-confidence and feel the atmosphere of major tournaments again. We decided not to take risks and allowed Anna to participate only in the individual competition, freeing her from the team competition. But the main thing is that she is back with us and ready to fight," said Chingiz Mustafayev.
