"The performance of Azerbaijan's freestyle wrestlers at the U-20 World Championship held in Samokov, Bulgaria, is satisfactory."
Idman.biz reports with reference to the press service of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation that this was stated by Arif Abdullayev, the head coach of the team consisting of freestyle wrestlers under 20 years old.
He commented on the performance of the national team members at the World Championship: "In total, we scored 71 points and became the fourth in the world in the team standings. We showed the best result among European countries. We could have achieved even better results. Yusif Dursunov lost to an Iranian wrestler due to the last point principle. Our main hope was Aganazar Novruzov, who had been a European medalist among adults. However, the result was not as we expected. Some of our athletes lost due to individual mistakes. Overall, the result is satisfactory. Our young people promise great prospects. If they eliminate these mistakes, they will achieve great results."
It should be noted that Azerbaijani freestyle wrestlers won 3 bronze medals at the World Championship.
