Today, the first sets of medals will be awarded at the World Wrestling Championship held in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.
Idman.biz reports that three wrestlers from the Azerbaijani national team will compete for medals.
In the heavyweight category (125 kg), Olympic-2024 bronze medalist Giorgi Meshvildishvili will compete in the final match for the title of world champion. His opponent will be Iranian wrestler Amir Hossein Zare, bronze medalist of Tokyo-2020 and silver medalist of Paris-2024.
It should be noted that Meshvildishvili will win a medal at the World Championship for the first time. He has previously climbed the podium 3 times at the European Championships - bronze in 2023 and 2024, and gold in 2025.
Two of our athletes - Nureddin Novruzov (61 kg) and Arseniy Cioyev (86 kg) will compete for bronze medals. Novruzov will have his first match in the consolation stage against Ecuadorian representative Joshua Kramer. Cioyev's opponent will be determined later.
