The official website of the United World Wrestling (UWW) has announced the favorites for the World Wrestling Championship (U-20) among youth, which will start on August 17 in Samokov, Bulgaria.
Idman.biz reports that Azerbaijani wrestlers are also on the list.
Aghanezar Novruzov (74 kg), bronze medalist of the European Freestyle Wrestling Championship among adults, along with Ladrion Lokett (USA), Ismail Khaniev (UWW) and Manuel Vagin (Germany) are considered the main candidates for the gold medal.
In the 92 kg weight category, Anar Jafarli, bronze medalist of last year's World Championship, will have one of his main rivals, Kamil Kuruqliyev from Kazakhstan. Yusif Dursunov (125 kg), the world champion among wrestlers under 17 in the heavyweight division, will compete for the title. He has strong opponents such as Inal Gagloev (UWW), Koul Mirasola (USA) and Edige Kassimbek (Kazakhstan).
European Youth Champion Vasif Baghirov (57 kg) may cross paths with wrestlers such as Nika Zangaladze (Georgia) and Arshia Haddadi (Iran).
Among women in the 59 kg weight category, Gunay Gurbanova, who has not been defeated in 2024, will have Japanese favorite Sakura Onishi as her main rival. In the 62 kg weight category, Ruzanna Mammadova will compete for medals with Anjli (India) and Annika Fiennes (Canada).
In Greco-Roman wrestling, Turan Dashtamirov (55 kg) intends to take revenge on Ivan Solomin (UWW). Among his rivals is Koba Karumidze (Georgia). Aykhan Javadov (60 kg) and Davud Mammadov (77 kg) will also compete for awards.
