The goal of the Azerbaijani national team at the World Armwrestling Championship to be held in Baku is to be first.
Azer Maharramov, Vice-President for Armwrestling of the Azerbaijan Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (ABFF), told "Report" about this.
He emphasized that the country will be represented by 145 athletes in the tournament:
"We will be represented by 145 athletes at the World Championship. Before that, we performed with 14 athletes at the European Championship and took first place. Our goal at the World Championship to be held in Baku is also to be first. Because we don't have a world championship. About 500 athletes from 30 countries will participate in the tournament. Azerbaijan is the country that will participate in the World Cup with the most athletes."
The official of the organization announced the names of the most serious rivals:
"Our most serious rivals will be athletes from the USA, Bulgaria, and Poland. India has just joined, we have never met them. All those who come to Azerbaijan are strong countries. The best athletes from each country will participate. As for the regulations, everyone will compete individually. In the end, the places of the participating countries will be determined according to the quality and number of medals."
The Vice President said that he expects good results from at least 40 people:
"We brought the competition to Azerbaijan in order to develop this sport. Maybe most of these children would not see a world championship in their lives. We wanted them to participate in the competition and gain experience. That is, not only by training in the gym. They should not be nervous when competing at this level. They should learn something from a foreign athlete. I expect good results from at least 40 out of 145 people."
It should be noted that the World Armwrestling Championship will be held in Baku from October 28 to 31.
