The failure of Azerbaijani female wrestlers to win a medal at the World Championship does not mean they are weak.
Aslan Agayev, the former head coach of the Azerbaijani women's national team, said this in an interview with "Report", while talking about the team's performance at the World Championship held in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.
He said that he does not consider the fact that female athletes were left without awards at the World Cup as a tragedy:
"Such cases happen in sports. Our wrestlers who participated in this competition were young. Speaking of young people, I can say that we often win medals in youth competitions. This is a very good thing. I am sure that new championships, silver and bronze medals will come in the World and European championships soon. In women's wrestling, there are sometimes athletes who get married and end their careers. In this case, it takes some time to bring women's wrestling to the desired form. But I still believe that the results will be pleasing in the near future."
It should be noted that Azerbaijan was represented at the World Cup under the leadership of acting head coach Togrul Asgarov and coach Hasrat Mammadyarov by Jala Aliyeva (57 kg), Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg) and Birgul Soltanova (62 kg). All three of them finished the fight without awards.
