Aleksandr Tarakanov, the head coach of Greco-Roman wrestling, assessed the national team's preparation for the Islamic Solidarity Games.
Idman.Biz reports that the information was provided by the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
He stated that the athletes were given a rest after the world championship, and those with injuries completed the recovery process during this period.
"Then, a general physical preparation process was carried out. From November 1, we started two weeks of tactical and technical training. Since the national team members participate in training camps throughout the year, there is no problem with the level of preparation. True, there is some fatigue as it is the end of the year. Therefore, we have already switched to light and short-term training so that the athletes are not overloaded," said Tarakanov.
The head coach added that the main rival of the competition will be the Iranian team: "They will participate with the main team. We also consider wrestlers from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Turkey as serious rivals. In my opinion, a high level of competition awaits us at the Islamic Games."
Tarakanov also touched upon the analysis of rivals: "We analyze all the rivals by watching the footage of their matches and working on the mistakes. Of course, the rivals are also watching us and are specifically tuning in against us. Therefore, we must be as prepared as possible."
It should be noted that the wrestling competitions at the Islamic Games will be held from November 18 to 21. Bashir Isazade, a first-class referee, will also represent Azerbaijan at the Islamic Solidarity Games.
