Luca Brecel, the 30-year-old Belgian snooker player and 2023 world champion, has confessed to barely playing this season due to an illness that qualified doctors have been unable to diagnose.
İdman.biz reports that his illness is characterized by periods of extreme fatigue for no apparent reason. According to the snooker player, it is not related to his psyche.
"People come to me and ask, "Oh, is it a mental illness?" and try to help, but the problem is not in my head. I'm completely happy. I'm fine. It's not a mental thing. It's physical processes in my body. It's weird. I've been to so many doctors. At least 18 times in three or four months. But the doctors can't find anything. I live with it. I want to be at the table. It all happened suddenly, and no one knows what it is. My body is doing strange things, and I'm trying to understand it."
"I was expecting to get better, but it didn't happen. Then I thought, okay, I'll play. No matter what, no matter how I feel, I'll play. When I play, I feel good. Not every moment, but I get better. Because of all these problems, I can't do any sports, of course. I was in great shape - I was running long distances and riding a bike," - "The Sun" quotes Brecel.
Brecel previously reached the 1/4 finals of the "English Open 2025" ranking tournament. However, Luca had not competed since April before that.
