The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has decided to postpone the WADA European Regional Symposium, which was scheduled to take place in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, on March 18-19, 2026.
İdman.Biz reports that the meeting of the WADA Executive Committee (ExCo), which was planned to be held in Baku before the symposium, will be held online.
In its statement, WADA highlighted that this decision was not taken lightly, highly appreciating the hospitality and support shown by the hosts - the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan National Anti-Doping Agency (AMADA). This decision was deemed necessary after careful consideration of possible disruptions in air transport and logistical factors. WADA, which values the safety and well-being of symposium participants and staff as a key priority, emphasized that the adoption of this decision was inevitable.
The statement expressed gratitude to all parties who contributed to the organization of the event, especially to the hosts, and emphasized that alternative options for the symposium are currently being considered, including holding the event in Baku at a later date or organizing it in an online format. Additional information will be provided as soon as all options have been carefully analyzed.
