"We continue our serious efforts to finalize the program of the European Games to be held in Istanbul in 2027."
Idman.biz reports that this was said by Spiros Capralos, President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC).
He spoke about this at the European Union Sports Forum held in Krakow: "We understand that the approval of sports in the European Games program as soon as possible is important for all interested parties, including athletes, coaches, federations and organizers. The EOC Executive Committee is working on this issue."
The preliminary list has already been agreed and includes 21 types. Among them are wrestling and gymnastics, which were not in the last European Games. It is noteworthy that weightlifting, which was not previously represented in the multi-forum, is also included in the list.
The preliminary program of the competition also includes judo, taekwondo, boxing, shooting, karate, athletics, fencing, badminton, archery, volleyball, 3x3 basketball, triathlon, modern pentathlon, swimming, rowing and table tennis. There are also two alternative sports on the list: beach rowing and sailing.
But in fact, there will be more sports: considering that, for example, the gymnastics program of the European Games held in Baku and Minsk included all types, from sports and rhythmic gymnastics to trampoline, acrobatics and aerobics.
Farid Gayibov, President of European Gymnastics, also noted this point about a month ago: "I am proud to announce that gymnastics will once again be part of the European Games! We are now entering the discussion phase of the types, numbers and classification process. Rest assured, our goal is to include all six types in the list, as was the case at the European Games held in Baku in 2015 and Minsk in 2019: men's and women's artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, acrobatics and aerobic gymnastics."
The program of the 2027 European Games is expected to be approved by the end of the year.
