Some Russian sports TV channels ("МАТЧ! ФУТБОЛ 1", "МАТЧ! ФУТБОЛ 2", "МАТЧ! ФУТБОЛ 3", "МАТЧ! ПРЕМЬЕРА", "МАТЧ! ИГРА", "МАТЧ! АРЕНА", "МАТЧ! СТРАНА", "МАТЧ!") do not have the right to broadcast in Azerbaijan.
İdman.biz reports that this was stated in the statement of the Audiovisual Council regarding the reason for the suspension of the broadcast of "Match TV".
The Council receives appeals regarding the removal of the mentioned TV channels from the multiplex and platform operators' retransmission packages:
"Exclusive broadcasting rights in Azerbaijan for a number of international sports competitions broadcast on these channels have been acquired by a number of local terrestrial and platform broadcasters, and these competitions are presented on their television channels. It is clear from the appeals of the broadcasters who have acquired exclusive and non-exclusive broadcasting rights to the Audiovisual Council, as well as from the ongoing court proceedings, that the de facto 'pirate' broadcasting of 'Match TV' channels in Azerbaijan seriously damages their legally protected interests and economic potential. In general, the illegal (without permission or agreement) retransmission of foreign television channels by operators in Azerbaijan seriously damages the image of our country in this field."
It should be noted that on May 13, the Council again made an official appeal to multiplex and platform operators, demanding that they stop broadcasting "pirate" channels (including the sports channels mentioned above) in retransmission packages, and announced that legal measures would be taken against operators who do not comply with this requirement from June 1.
