Romania's National Audiovisual Council (CNA) has issued an official decision banning celebrities from appearing in gambling advertisements in order to reduce the impact of gambling on society.
İdman.biz reports that the ban will apply regardless of the platform on which the advertisement is broadcast – television, radio or the Internet.
The Romanian national code of audiovisual regulation states: "The broadcasting of gambling advertisements involving well-known public, cultural, scientific, sports figures, or persons known for their popularity in the online environment is prohibited. These people may increase interest in these games."
The rule will become mandatory 90 days after the new code comes into effect.
Although a number of gambling institutions and companies have tried to change this decision, and the Romanian Football Federation has also applied for exemption from this ban, all proposals have been unanimously rejected.
Among the famous Romanian athletes who participated in gambling advertisements were Adrian Mutu, who was the head coach of Neftchi in 2023, former football player Dan Petrescu, former tennis player Ilie Nastase and other celebrities.
