November 9 is the State Flag Day in Azerbaijan.
Idman.Biz reminds that the State Flag Day was established by the Order of President Ilham Aliyev dated November 17, 2009 "On the establishment of the Day of the State Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan". On December 4 of the same year, the Milli Majlis officially declared November 9 as the State Flag Day.
The state flag of Azerbaijan was adopted on November 9, 1918, at a meeting of the Government of the Republic.
The tricolor flag, which was lowered after the fall of the Republic in April 1920, was raised again 70 years later - on November 17, 1990, in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic by the decision of the session held under the initiative and leadership of Heydar Aliyev, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
On February 5, 1991, according to the decision of the Azerbaijani Supreme Soviet, the same tricolor flag was adopted as the State Flag.
It should be noted that on November 8, 2024, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the first lady Mehriban Aliyeva and their son Heydar Aliyev visited the State Flag Square in Baku. The head of state raised the tricolor flag of Azerbaijan here.
That flag entered the "Guinness Book of Records" due to its size. The total weight of the flag is more than 500 kilograms. Before the State Flag Square was closed for repairs, this record was broken due to the height of the flagpole.
