It is no secret that not only Olympic, but also non-Olympic sports are developing in Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Youth and Sports supports these federations without any discrimination. One of these federations is the Azerbaijan Motorcycle Sports Federation, or, more simply, the motorcycle sports federation.
Idman.biz presents an interview with Fuad Bagirov, who was recently appointed head of the aforementioned federation:
- It has been a little over 100 days since you took over the leadership of the federation. Usually in politics, this period is considered a reporting period. I wonder how things are with you? Are there moments you can be proud of?
- Frankly, it would be better if you gave me a little more time (laughs). We just have a few ideas that we plan to implement in the coming months. But since they are still only on paper, I don't risk disclosing them yet. However, there is reason to be proud. After being approved for this position on May 30 this year, my main goal was to revive this sport in Azerbaijan. Because for more than twenty years, the federation practically did not function. And we, as they say, rolled up our sleeves and started working.
- How are your affairs going now?
- Currently, we have three athletes who are at a level to fully compete in international competitions. One of them, Anar Mammadov, won two medals at competitions held in Georgia: silver and gold medals in sports bike (sports motorcycle). In addition, we have more than ten young athletes who, so to speak, we are testing and preparing.
- What about the women's team?
- Not yet.
- Do you have a place to train? After all, our only motodrome has not been functioning for many years.
- Our motocross athletes train in Badamdar. As for the mototrek, due to the lack of such conditions in our country, we went to Rustavi, Georgia. There is a good mototrek there. The closest place for us is there.
