Eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi has expressed his admiration for Liverpool's legendary midfielder Steven Gerrard.
Lent.az reports with reference to foreign media that, according to the Argentine, who plays for the American club Inter Miami, Gerrard deserves the title of the best English football player of all time.
The Argentine footballer said: "Personally, I think Steven Gerrard is the best player in England."
Steven Gerrard has made 710 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 186 goals. During his career, he has twice won the Champions League and the English Cup.
Gerrard is currently managing the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq. As for Messi, in addition to Inter Miami, his career includes the Spanish Barcelona, the French PSG and the Argentine Newell's Old Boys.
