The medals of two Azerbaijani athletes who were among the prize-winners at the Summer Olympic Games held in Paris, the capital of France, have lost their quality.
Taekwondo athlete Gashim Magomedov (58 kg) and Greco-Roman wrestler Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg) informed "Report" about this.
Silver medalist G. Magomedov said that the quality of the medal is not at the desired level:
"From the first days, I treated it very carefully. The medal was kept in a special bag all this time. It stayed in the bag for about two months, I would come and look at it, sometimes I admired it. A few days ago, when I had to go to a training camp in Azerbaijan, I thought I'd take it with me just in case. Maybe it will be needed somewhere, maybe at some event the Ministry of Youth and Sports or the Taekwondo Federation will tell me to take it with me. I decided to take it and when I took it out of the bag I saw that it was a bit spoiled. I can't understand why? I don't even touch it, on the contrary, I have always treated it with care. In short, yes, I also encountered this bad quality".
H. Jafarov, who won a bronze medal, noted that a certain part of the medal had broken off. He emphasized that the award given at the Olympics was of very poor quality.
Anar Bagirov, director of the foreign relations department of the National Olympic Committee, told "Report" that they were aware of the issue with G. Magomedov. He noted that they will inquire about the medals of Hasrat Jafarov and other athletes:
"After the final investigations, an appeal will be made to the International Olympic Committee".
It should be noted that more than 100 athletes have previously returned the medals they won at Paris 2024 due to their poor quality. The Summer Olympic Games were held from July 26 to August 11.
